Chloe questions the traditional ideas in portraiture and attempts to broaden what the word can mean. By removing the gaze and also perhaps the face, she hopes to draw more attention to the details present in posture, pose and physical quirks that appear in a person’s stance. By hiding the face Chloe creates a performative, engaging narrative with the body which she hopes the viewer can interact emotionally with.
Playing with the notion of surface and skin by working on untreated wood, leaving some areas of wood grain 'bare' or treated with semi transparent inks and wood stains. She is interested in painting calm, uncomplicated, would be reticent images which stir the viewer rather than shock.
